Announcing Conducting Appearances for the 2021-2022 Season

Nic McGegan

Nic McGegan announces conducting appearances over the coming 21/22 season. After the past year and a half of severely reduced engagements due to the pandemic, he is pleased to return to the podium with a slate of performances celebrating the vibrant in-person concert experience so many have craved in its absence.

While more concerts are still being finalized, here is the current schedule.

East Coast

As highlighted by The New York Times in their Fall Arts Preview, Nic kicks off the season this month conducting the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (October 14-17) with violinist Augustin Hadelich in music of Beethoven and Chevalier de Saint-Georges, who is remembered today as the first known classical composer of African ancestry. Nic appears with the National Symphony Orchestra (November 4-5) at both the Kennedy Center and at a new concert hall in Tysons, VA — Capital One Hall.

Midwest

Appearing in the American Midwest, Nic leads two standout orchestras in Handel’s Messiah this holiday season: the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus (December 16-19) with all-star soloists soprano Yulia Van Doren, countertenor Reginald Mobley, tenor Ben Bliss, and bass-baritone Dashon Burton; and the Grammy Award-winning baroque orchestra, Apollo’s Fire (December 8-12), with breakout singers soprano Erica Schuller, countertenor Daniel Moody, tenor Thomas Cooley, and baritone Hadleigh Adams.

An annual guest conductor of the St. Louis Symphony for decades, Nic is delighted to return this season (December 3-5) in Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos (Nos. 1 & 6), preceded by the Chamber Music Society of St. Louis (November 29) in a themed “Baroque Masters” concert.

At the famed Cliburn Competition (June 9-12), Nic leads the semi-final round of Mozart concertos as he did at the last competition, in 2017.

West Coast

On the West Coast, sunny California beckons where Nic conducts the Santa Barbara Symphony (November 13-14) in Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks. Violist Erik Rynearson joins the program in Telemann’s Viola Concerto in G Major. In January, Nic returns to the Pasadena Symphony (January 22) with Bach’s Fifth Brandenburg Concerto. Welcoming the first day of spring In Berkeley, he performs with Cantata Collective (March 20), which is dedicated to the works of J.S. Bach.

Europe

Nic’s European engagements include Germany’s NDR Radio Philharmonie (April 8) in Handel’s Acis and Galatea HWV 49 (Mendelssohn’s version) with Amanda Forsythe and Thomas Cooley in the starring roles. In Ireland, he conducts the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra (April 15). In Hungary, he’s overjoyed for several performances with Capella Savaria (June 3-4), of which he is Principal Guest Conductor.

Stay tuned for other concerts added to Nic’s schedule this season!
