Nic's Figaro, "conducted brilliantly," is a massive hit
Nic just wrapped up a wonderful run of Le nozze di Figaro at the Royal Danish Opera where audiences and critics alike were thrilled with his conducting. As one review noted, “Conductor Nicholas McGegan brings it all together like a true master through his well-considered choice of tempi, whereby the Mozartian sound unfolds in the orchestra and the acoustics of the entire room. McGegan's handling of the score resulted in more than great interaction for all actors, which the Opera here at home can really be proud of. May he return as soon as possible” (POV International).
Michael Søby of CPH Culture wrote, “Nicholas McGegan takes credit for his musical direction, and both choir and orchestra contribute to making this afternoon at the Opera a complete pleasure.” Magnus Tessing Schneider of Peripeti reported, "McGegan is not just one of the grand old men of historical performance practice. He is also – in the best sense of the word – a classical opera conductor who serves the singers, the orchestra and Mozart without putting himself at the center."
This praise is only scratching the surface of the tremendous accolades. To read more about Nic's success, visit his website.
Nic brings the holiday spirit
As the holiday season unfolds, it brings with it the timeless tradition of music that warms the soul and kindles the festive spirit. This December, Nic takes the podium to lead a series of performances that showcase the very best of Baroque repertoire—perfectly suited to the magic of the holidays.
The festivities begin on December 7 and 8 with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, where Nic will guide audiences through selections from Bach’s luminous Christmas Oratorio. Also on the program are Vivaldi’s radiant and ever-popular Gloria and Corelli’s enchanting Christmas Concerto, a lesser-known gem that brims with seasonal charm.
Following these spirited concerts, he heads across the Atlantic to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra for a performance of Handel’s Messiah on December 11. Few works encapsulate the grandeur and joy of the season like this perennial favorite, and under Nic’s baton, it promises to be a revelatory experience.
On December 18 he joins the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, conducting Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks. This piece is majestic and jubilant for a season brimming with musical splendor. This will be Nic's first time in Antwerp and he is looking forward to working with this marvelous orchestra and exploring the stunning city.
On January 2, Nic brings his year of fantastic music to a sparkling close with his second Messiah of the season with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
With a lineup like this, his December and January appearances are a must for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the vibrancy and joy of the holiday season. Whether you’re drawn to Bach’s masterful storytelling, Handel’s rousing choruses, or Corelli’s evocative melodies, these performances will inspire and delight.
