Now available — Nic's latest recording with Cantata Collective

Nic joins forces with Cantata Collective for a riveting recording of Bach's St. John Passion

Following the critically acclaimed release of two volumes of J.S. Bach's cantatas, Nic and Cantata Collective have just released their immersive new recording of the composer's St. John Passion.

The first recording in Cantata Collective's five-year partnership with AVIE Records, the new album sees Nic leading the Collective's superior orchestra, chamber choir, and the toast of today's new generation of vocal soloists in a powerful live performance that conveys the intimacy and drama of Bach's monumental work.

BBC Radio 3's Record Review noted nothing but praise for the recording, calling it "bold and beautifully constructed ... there's an immediate hit here."

The album is now available for purchase as a physical CD — or listen wherever you stream or download music.

Welcoming summer with Schumann's "Spring" Symphony

Have baton, will travel!

Nic made a surprise appearance last week, stepping in at the Sarasota Music Festival for Jeffrey Kahane, who had fallen ill. Together with his friends in the Sarasota Orchestra, Nic navigated the majestic waters of Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto, which featured the legendary Robert Levin as soloist. Rounding out the concert was Emily Cooley's Argo — a lush meditation on the meaning of identity — and, humorously enough for a post-Midsommar concert, Schumann's joyous "Spring" Symphony!

Nic heads to Colorado next month for two concerts in Aspen

A busy summer of music-making continues next month when Nic leads two performances at the Aspen Music Festival, where his concerts are always highlights of the season.

On Friday, July 7, he'll explore Schubert's Sixth Symphony and five of the composer's most beloved art songs in brilliant orchestral arrangements by Britten, Offenbach, Webern, and Berlioz. Maxim Vengerov will also join Nic and the Aspen Chamber Symphony for Mendelssohn's joyously vibrant Violin Concerto.

And on Thursday, July 13, Nic will lead a mostly Bach program featuring the legendary pianist Awadagin Pratt, who will perform a Bach keyboard concerto and Jessie Montgomery's Rounds. Commissioned by Pratt and soon to be featured on his upcoming album, STILLPOINT, Montgomery's work is inspired by the imagery and themes of T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets, as well as the constancy, rhythms, and duality of life.
